The middle altitude mountains (1100 to 1800m) especially on the North side of the White Mountains offer a rich display of flowers - many of them endemic to Crete - in spring right after the snow has melted. You need to know when and where to go to catch what is often an ephemeral splendor.
The best known and most abundant are Crocus sieberi, Scilla nana and Tulipa saxatilis.
