Below are a few maps of Crete and areas of Crete. These maps vary widely in size so we have indicated the approximate size of the file next to the map description.
We also include some recommendations if you wish to buy a map.

If you want to explore Crete and get away from the beaten track, you will want to buy a good map. We can recommend two. They are the best maps for walking and have a scale of 1/100.000. Unfortunately there are is no map with a smaller scale but these two have elevation curves and are reasonably accurate

Trekking and Road Map 1/100.000 Giorgis N Petrakis Editions, Heraklion is consists of 4 separate maps covering the whole of Crete. Many footpaths are marked. This good map is available at larger newsagents on Crete.

harms verlag produces a 1/100.000 map in 2 parts. This map may be available in specialist shops as well as on the internet at amazon (.com, uk.co and .de)
This excellent map is also often available at larger newsagents on Crete.

freytag & berndt has published a 1/50.000 hiking map of Crete (ISBN-3-85084-809-4). It is the ONLY 1/50.000. A big drawback though: it only covers five areas of Crete and only one in West Crete, around the National park of Samaria. So it is a really good map but only useful if you are planning to walk exactly in the areas covered (the other areas covered are Lassithi, Orno Thriptis, Idi and Asterousia).
